This international level institution was started during the International Youth Year declared by the United Nations and was inaugurated on 15 April 1985 by the then Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Chandra Shekhar Singh..

During the last 30 years since its inception, the World Institute of Fashion Education (WIFE) has organised thousands of programmes in India as well as in the rest of the world having social, cultural, ethnic, environmental, scientific, educational, economic and positive contents with a view to strengthening the cause of fashion design, fashion technology and fashion education.
